School Club Zambia’s Big Give Campaign: Bulimi Busumpula “Farming that Empowers Us” Girls’ Agricultural Project

We are thrilled to announce that School Club Zambia is participating in this year's Big Give Campaign! Thanks to generous initial pledges of £2,500, we are ready to launch our impactful project — the Bulimi Busumpula “Farming that Empowers Us” Girls’ Agricultural Project.

Our mission is to empower 25 at-risk girls identified by their schools as vulnerable to dropping out. Over the course of a one-year training program, these girls will receive start-up garden tools and seeds, enabling them to create their own organic, climate-smart gardens. Past projects have shown that income generated from these gardens helps girls pay for school fees, uniforms, and books, alleviating financial burdens and supporting their education.

Throughout the year, the girls will participate in practical training boot camps during school holidays. Here, they will learn essential agricultural skills, such as mulching to protect crops from high temperatures in the Valley, as well as entrepreneurial skills to help them succeed beyond the garden. Additionally, they will benefit from monthly support visits from a local agricultural expert who will monitor their progress and provide guidance. To motivate continued effort, prizes will be awarded at the end of each term to the girl who demonstrates the greatest dedication.

How can you help? During the Big Give Campaign week in early December, your donations will be doubled, making your generosity go even further:

  • £10 will be doubled to £20, providing a girl with a rake to maintain her garden.

  • £20 will be doubled to £40, covering the monthly cost of a trainer’s visit to all 25 girls to address issues like pests.

  • £40 will be doubled to £80, funding seeds for one girl’s garden, including tomatoes, cabbages, eggplant, and spinach.

Your support will directly empower girls to become self-sufficient, healthy, and confident young farmers, helping them stay in school and build brighter futures.

Join us in making a difference! Your kind gifts during the Big Give Campaign week will help us turn this vision into reality. Together, we can grow a future where girls lead the way in sustainable farming and community development.

Once the campaign link is live in December we will post the details here along with an update on our fundraising target of £4,000!
